Mr Karani (82 year old with Total Knee Replacement): A little late though, my good wishes for the New Year 2010, and for the new decade that we are entering.

I had this letter in mind from the time I returned from New Zealand in early November 2009.

If there is any commendation that a patient can give to a doctor – especially to a senior Orthopaedic surgeon, then I would like to pass that on to you. It was on 2 Aug. 08, that you did my Knee Replacement surgery. Fourteen months after the surgery, in October 09 I went to New Zealand, and what I could accomplish was outright crazy and fantastic.

Robert Carson (American Citizen now living in China) (Hip Resurfacing): To all of you who are seeking relief from hip pain.

My name is Robert B. Carson and I am a former sufferer of chronic hip pain.

In the summer of 2005 I travelled to Thailand with the intention of undergoing conventional hip surgery at the Bum Run Grad hospital in Bangkok. It was the evening before my scheduled hip surgery when I was watching the television in my hospital room.

Dr Shah (Total Knee Replacement): I suffered for several years with bad arthritis in my knee. The entire day would be spent moving slowly with a walking stick and consuming pain-killers. Being a doctor, it was important to have good mobility so that I could attend to my patients quickly. Osteoarthritis of the knee made my life miserable. I tried all possible allopathic, homeopathic and ayurvedic medicines, but they did not help. I had a severely bent, deformed and stiff knee with hardly any movement in it. My patients were able to notice my knee problems and this had an adverse effect on my confidence. I finally gave up and decided to undergo a Total Knee Replacement surgery.

Mr Jhunjhunwalla (Arthrocopy knee and ACL Reconstruction): I am a sportsman and love playing football everyday. One day, a simple injury while playing ruined my life. I fell on the field and was unable to get up. My friends helped me up and took me to a hospital where I was told there was blood collected inside my knee. The blood was removed and I started physiotherapy a few weeks later. I regained my flexibility in a months time, but one problem persisted – everytime I tried to jog or run or change direction while walking, my knee suddenly used to buckle ad I would feel as though I would lose balance and fall down.

Mr Kulkarni (Total Hip Replacement): I was horrified to learn I had developed Avascular Necrosis (AVN) in my hip. I was in pain and agony, walking with a limp and on sick leave from my job for 6 months - I was almost about to lose my livelihood. Doctors did MRI scans and tried medications, crutches, Physiotherapy, but nothing worked for me. Few surgeons advised me Total Hip Replacement (THR) and few advised me Hip Resurfacing. How to choose? I somehow realised that those doctors who were recommending a THR were not doing Resurfacing themselves, and those who had advised Resurfacing were not regular THR surgeons but wanted to ‘push’ resurfacing. Also, I was scared about metal on metal joints and worried about what metal ions might do to my body.

Mr Gordon Deboo (San Francisco, USA) (Hip Resurfacing): In June 2005, I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Pispati at the Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. My experience was very positive and I am happy to recommend Dr. Pispati to anyone considering resurfacing. Jaslok Hospital’s medical facilities on the 16th floor, where foreign patients go, are excellent.

Where to turn for advice? (Mrs. Edna Harsha , Minnesota, USA) (Hip Resurfacing)
My doctor told me I probably would require hip replacement and sent me to an osteopathic surgeon - I was in shock. I have known for ten years I had a bad hip but when I thought about what they were really going to do to my hip and femur bone it sicken me. Not to mention all the things I would not be doing again and the horrifying possibility of revision. Always having to be careful with everything I did and knowing with each move it was wearing away. Someone at work told me about the special on 60 minutes

Mr Bradley Thayer (Canada) (Arthroscopy Knee & ACL Reconstruction): I want to thank you for sending me to Dr. Pispati. It is unbelievable how attentive and talented that man is. He really is a superb surgeon and also so very personable and likeable. He really does care about his patients and his follow up attention is unbelievable. I was awake during my operation after being anesthetized from the waist down and can tell you that every precaution imaginable was taken to prevent infection.

Mr. E. L. Perriatt (Santa Cruz, California, USA) (Total Knee Replacement & Hip Resurfacing): It is my pleasure to confirm my complete satisfaction with the two excellent surgeries I had under the care of Doctor Ameet Pispati, Orthopedic Surgeon at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai, India. My experiences with Doctor Pispati, before and after surgery, have been positive, informative and genuine.  In 2006, I had two surgical procedures with Doctor Pispati.  In April, my Right hip had the Articular Surface Resurfacing (ASR) commonly known as Hip Resurfacing. I returned to Mumbai in December 2006 to have a Computer Assisted Surgery (CAS) Total Knee Replacement on my Left knee.  I would recommend Doctor Pispati to anyone with an orthopedic disorder without reservation.  I feel he is one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the world.
