Birmingham Mid Head Resection (BMHR)

The Birmingham Mid Head Resection device (BMHR) is an amazing solution for patients who want a Resurfacing, but cannot have a Resurfacing due to poor femoral head bone quantity or quality. It gives the same spectacular function as a Resurfacing.

Whilst Dr. Pispati endeavours to offer Resurfacing to most patients, clearly there are patients who are not suitable for Hip Resurfacing. Patients with weak femoral head bone, those with Avascular Necrosis with multiple cysts, and patients with femoral head bone loss are not candidates for Hip Resurfacing. Such patients can now undergo a BMHR procedure.

The BMHR offers a remarkable solution for Avascular Necrosis patients as it works in the same way as a Resurfacing, using Resurfacing parts supplemented by a thicker stem in the neck of the femur. On an X-ray, the BMHR looks much the same as a Resurfacing.

The Silent Hip is another device that is similar to a BMHR.

Dr. Pispati is fully trained in these surgeries and is the only surgeon is Asia to perform computer assisted BMHR and Silent Hip Surgery
